Frequently Asked Questions:

Q: What's a giclée print?
A: Giclée is the use of the ink-jet printing process for making fine art large digital images on paper or canvas. The term comes from the French verb gicler meaning "to squirt, to spray." The term, sometimes anglicized as giclée, is used to describe high-resolution, large-format ink-jet printer output with fade-resistant pigment-based inks on high quality acid free paper.

Q: How do I care for a giclée print?
A:
Ink jet giclées are printed with water soluble inks. Like watercolors and pastels on paper, they must be protected from dampness and ultraviolet light. At the minimum, giclée prints should be framed under glass. We strongly recommend the use of UV shielding acrylic sheet glazing specially made for framing high quality artworks. Never display your prints where they will be exposed to direct sunlight or strong fluorescent lighting. Talk to your local framing specialist for the best advice on how to obtain the best protection for your prints.

Q: I want a print of something that's not on your web site. How can I get one?
A: Custom made prints are available on a print-on demand basis.

Q: How much does it cost to get a custom made copy of one of your paintings I saw on a book cover or in a book, magazine, card, calendar, puzzle, etc.
A: If the art is not already available as a print I charge a flat fee of $750 for a signed, full sized custom, one-off print on fine arts paper. They are only available on canvas if the original work was also painted on canvas. Most of my art is painted on board or gesso panels.

Q: What if I want a large blow up of one of your paintings?
A: At the present time, the largest print I can offer is on paper 24” wide. The work can be longer but not wider. Some loss of detail is inevitable when prints are produced that are larger in size than the original painting. The cost is $750. For anything larger than this, the printing must be done by an outside source. The minimum cost is $1000.00.

Q: How long does it take to make a custom print?
A: Average time is two weeks or less, plus transit time in shipping.

Q: How can I pay for prints?
A: We accept Visa and Mastercard and PayPal. You can also pay by Money Order, Certified Check, and Cashiers Check. Custom prints are non-returnable.

Q: Why are custom made prints so expensive?
A: The time to make one of these prints from scratch is on average over 15 hours from image scan, color corrections, proofing , through to final print. The costs of proofing stock and ink and paper waste are also factored into the price.
